Compliance & Product Regulatory ApproVals

The UK government announces ‘indefinite’ CE certification acceptance in the market.

  • The government’s decision to recognise CE marking indefinitely means that companies no longer must change completely to UKCA marking for 18 product categories.
  • On August 1, 2023, the UK Department of Business and Trade (DBT) confirmed that the European ‘CE’ safety label for products will be retained permanently.
  • Compliance with and application of the CE mark alone will allow products to be sold in the UK after 2024, exactly as they are in the EU.
  • The expansion will provide businesses with the flexibility and option to sell their products in the UK using either the UKCA or CE method.
  • These changes affect the 18 regulations administered by the Department of Business and Trade (DBT). They are as follows:
  1. Toys
  2. Pyrotechnics
  3. recreational craft and personal watercraft
  4. Simple pressure vessels
  5. electromagnetic compatibility
  6. Non-automatic weighing instruments
  7. Measuring instruments
  8. Measuring container bottles
  9. Lifts
  10. Equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
  11. Radio equipment
  12. Pressure equipment
  13. Personal protective equipment (PPE)
  14. Gas appliances
  15. Machinery
  16. Equipment for use outdoors
  17. Aerosols
  18. Low voltage electrical equipment
  19. The following are not yet included in this latest easement, but the UK Government may issue a statement on how they may be affected in due course: medical devices, construction products, cableways, transportable pressure equipment, unmanned aircraft systems, rail products, marine equipment, and eco-design.
