South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) News November 2022

Beginning on November 1st, 2022, the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) has formally implemented the ILAC EMC CoC certification procedure. As against the current procedure, wherein SABS was accepting test reports produced by the A-Lab Scheme (from Authorized Labs only) SABS will now accept Certificates of Conformance (CoCs) regarding Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) applications along with International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) test reports, according to General Notice 751, which was published in the South African Government Gazette on January 3, 2022.

Due to ICASA’s market surveillance-based enforcement of the rule, it is projected that demand for CoC applications will increase in 2022.

The ILAC test report still requires the SABS UIN number. The lead time for using the ILAC test report by SABS EMC CoC will be longer than the lead time for using the test report generated by the A-Lab Scheme.
